In modern times, “If” is regarded as a popular classic of English literature, not necessarily for a display of artistry but for its familiarity and inspiration.

In zilele noastre, Poemul “If” e considerat a fi un classic al literaturii englezesti, nu numai pentru maiestria cu care este scris ci mai mult pentru stilul deschis, apropiat si  inspirational.

“If” is a didactic poem, a work meant to offer information and to instruct. It illustrates the specific traits of a good leader. Kipling provides concrete illustrations of the complex actions a man should or should not take, actions that would reflect these characteristics.

“If” e un poem didactic, menit sa ofere informatii si sa instruiasca. El ilustreaza trasaturile unui bun conducator. Kipling ne ofera exemple concrete ale actiunilor pe care un barbat ar trebui sau nu sa le faca, actiuni care reflecta aceste trasaturi.

It exemplifies all of the responsibilities and qualities that come along with manhood.

The first lines of the poem are about being true to one's self. There are always going to be people who think differently or misjudge, for one reason or another.

El exemplifica responsabilitatile si calitatile ce vin odata cu maturitatea.

Primele randuri ale poemului sunt despre increderea in sine. Mereu vor exista oameni care gandesc diferit sau care judeca pe altii, dintr-un motiv sau altul.

The most important thing of all is to have the power to rise above this, to have a clear mind, to distinguish between wrong and right. There are of course, a few qualities that a real man has to possess in order to succeed in this world: optimism, wisdom, resourcefulness. A man can dream but it is mandatory to be realistic and responsible for his acts.

Cel mai important lucru este sa ai puterea sa continui, sa iti pastrezi gandirea clara, sa distingi binele de rau. Exista, fara indoiala, unele calitati pe care un barbat matur trebuie sa le aiba pentru a avea succes, si anume : optimism, intelepciune, ingeniozitate. Un barbat poate visa dar e obligatoriu sa fie realist, sa gandeasca in perspectiva si sa isi asume responsabilitatea pentru actiunile sale.

The next few lines are about overcoming the obstacles that get in one’s path. This section teaches us the meaning of the words perseverance and responsibility; it is all about pursuing the dreams and ideals, no matter how hard it gets.

Urmatoarele randuri ale poemului ne vorbesc despre capacitatea de a depasi obstacolele care intervin in calea unui barbat. Calitatile care reies sunt perseverenta si responsabilitatea, esential fiind sa iti urmaresti visurile si idealurile, in ciuda greutatilor care se pot ivi pe parcurs.

It all sums up with the last lines: never to give up, one needs to prove that he is trustworthy and strong enough to be called a leader, a man.

Concluzia ultimelor randuri este intr-o nota pozitiva : un barbat nu trebui sa renunte la visurile sale, trebui sa dovedeasca ca este de incredere si destul de puternic pentru a fi un lider, un barbat matur.
